Petworth House contains the National Trust's finest collection of pictures and sculpture.  Less well known is that it also hosts exhibitions by contemporary artists.  David Tress has travelled in Turner's footsteps to spectacular parts of Britain and produced exciting and evocative work using various media -- particularly graphite with collage.

Richard Pikesley is a favourite at the perceptive Alresford Gallery.  His lively brushwork, perfectly judged tone, subtle colour and sense of space are particularly effective showing light reflected off the water in coastal scenes.

Residents of Hampshire are invited to submit artwork on the theme of WATER for an Open Exhibition which will be on display from 18 July to 7 September. Contact Southampton City Art Gallery for further details and entry forms. Submission dates 27 or 28 June.
