Kalif Kalume

Wednesday 24th January, 2024

Here is Kalif's statement:

"I started drawing as long as I can remember. I have been fascinated by anything artistic such as music, cinema, sculpture, and painting. I graduated as artist/painter in my origin country, the Democratic Republic of Congo , at the "academie de beaux art" (academy of fine arts). I moved to the United Kingdom in 2010. Since then I have been mostly sketching and drawing with mixed media, acrylic and watercolor (mostly pen, pencil, colored pencil). In the meantime, I have been doing some commission artworks (portrait, story-boarding ) and participating in local exhibitions organized by various local artists. I have also been working in many jobs outside of the artistic field and volunteering for the local film-making community based in Portsmouth. I am still looking for a proper style. My art, at the moment, is mostly study and experimenting with different techniques and subjects such as abstract characters, anima, humans, angels, and portrait  ... I try to put them in a sort of narrative and try to tell a story of humanity and explore emotion and different connection."

Ruthy Martin

Wednesday 28th June - Ruthy Martin

Ruthy shared with us her charming illustrations, pop-up designs and illustrative art practice. We all really enjoyed the format of this 'hands on' art demonstration. A 'round the table' art workshop style of demo with lots of creativity, chat, laughter and a super friendly atmosphere. It was great to hear about Ruthy's positive and productive time at the Hotwalls studios and we all really enjoyed her vibrant personality and her cheerful, laid back attitude to her art practice. Art is FUN! More images coming soon...
